DREDF Comments on Proposed Revisions to Federal Race/Ethnicity Data Standards

The federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB) proposed revisions this year to its 1997 race and ethnicity demographic data collection standards. DREDF supports the changes which will encourage undercounted tribal populations and racial and ethnic groups such as Middle Eastern and North African persons to identify themselves and lead to appropriate funding allocation for government programs and activities. DREDF’s letter emphasizes the importance of accurate racial/ethnic identification for finding the compounded barriers faced by people of color with disabilities, and calls for OMB to carefully track, and guide federal, state, and local entities to preserve, data integrity through the change., April 27, 2023
