DREDF and co-counsel Disability Rights California and Barajas & Rivera APC submitted a tort claim to the Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) and other public entities on behalf of an 11-year-old Black disabled student who was repeatedly handcuffed and restrained by school police. The organizations released a video showing one of the handcuffing incidents. The claim gives formal notice to the District of the harm that the student endured. It also seeks to eliminate the use of police force and other discriminatory disciplinary practices that harm children, and to replace them with accommodations and supports that protect not only students with disabilities, but all students., July 14, 2020
